Reducing Bird Pressure with Science-Backed Solutions

Uncontrolled bird populations create serious challenges for commercial, industrial, and municipal sites. For most bird species, once they successfully nest in a location, their young will return to the same site to nest again, further increasing bird pressure at that location. Nesting and breeding can lead to property damage, increased liability, and health concerns. Wild Goose Chase provides professional bird population control services that reduce long-term pressure through legal, humane, and science-backed methods.

We work directly with facility managers at HOAs, airports, schools, municipalities, and other commercial properties to slow population growth without harming protected species. Our programs are built to align with your goals and to stay fully compliant with state and federal guidelines.

Understanding the Service

What Is Bird Population Control?

Bird population control focuses on reducing future population growth through methods like egg depredation, nest removal, and trapping of non-protected bird species. While deterrents like dogs or lasers push birds away, population control targets the root problem—too many birds returning year after year. For some species like gulls or pigeons, deterrence will not work effectively without first addressing population growth.

The services we provide are compliant with the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and other state and local regulations that protect most bird species, including Canada geese and gulls. Wild Goose Chase secures all required federal and state permits and handles egg removal documentation, so our clients stay protected from fines or enforcement issues.

We tailor every plan by property type, species, and bird activity level. Whether you’re dealing with aggressive geese during breeding season or pigeons nesting in mechanical areas, our team can provide a legal, long-term solution.

Egg Depredation and Addling

We provide licensed egg depredation services to slow population growth This prevents hatching and signals the adult birds to leave the site. All work is performed under applicable federal and state-level permits.

Nest Removal

We safely remove active and inactive nests from rooftops, ledges, mechanical equipment, and signage. Nests can clog drainage systems, damage property, and attract parasites and predators. Our technicians are trained to identify protected species and perform removals only where and when permitted.

Pigeon Trapping

As a non-protected species, pigeons can be legally trapped and removed from properties. We design targeted trapping programs to reduce existing populations and prevent nesting and roosting in problem areas. Trapping is often paired with exclusion and sanitation efforts to ensure longterm control and minimize the risk of re-infestation.

Ongoing Monitoring and Adjustments

Bird activity shifts with the season. That’s why we provide recurring evaluations and adjust your program based on new activity. Our team documents nests, behavior, and results so you can track the return on investment and stay in control of the site.

Where Population Control Works Best

Bird population control can be used on its own or combined with deterrents like border collie patrols, laser systems, and bird netting. We often recommend it for properties where birds return year after year, including:

  • Parks and Athletic Fields Prevent seasonal buildup of bird droppings that affect recreation and safety.
  • Corporate and School Campuses Protect landscaping, walkways, and employee/student areas from aggressive nesting geese and gulls.
  • Industrial Plants and Food Processors Keep nesting and roosting from disrupting daily operations.
  • Retail Properties Prevent birds from over-populating in heavily trafficked locations.
  • Hospitals Protect the health and safety of patients from nesting birds and accumulated fecal matter.
  • Water Treatment Plants & Public Utilities Prevent birds from overpopulating near water sources and nests from becoming a fire hazard.
  • Logistics Warehouses Protect warehouses and docks from gulls, geese and pigeons.
  • Homeowners’ Associations (HOAs) Maintain clean shared spaces and prevent birds from nesting near ponds, rooftops, and walking paths.

Each site has different pressure points. We design control programs based on your landscape, infrastructure, and bird species.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most clients start seeing reduced activity within one season. The best results come from multi-year programs that combine population control with deterrents.

Yes. We follow strict permitting procedures and do not perform any work without proper legal authorization.

Early spring is the ideal time for egg depredation and nest management, before hatching season. Evaluations should begin in late winter to prepare the site.

That’s ideal. Population control enhances the results of your deterrent systems by reducing the number of birds coming back to nest each year.

Client Testimonials

"The Migratory Bird Management team efforts have made our operations easier. By managing bird population and deterring birds from returning, we have reduced/eliminated the annoyances and dangers of birds affecting staff and vendors performing roof maintenance on our high rise, window cleaners propelling off the building and parkers at our open air six story parking structure. They usher you through the complexities of government requirements and do it with reasonable prices and great follow up. Any building that has birds posing obstacles should reach out to Mike and his team for assistance!"

General Manager, Colliers Sherry K.

"Migratory Bird Management offered a turnkey service, keeping us up to date with their progress throughout the process this Spring and Summer. The team provided pictures and status updates after each visit. Mike even reached out to the City to keep them in the loop on numerous occasions. In 2020 they were able to humanly remove over 2,400 nests and 13,000 eggs from the roof top of the building."

Property Manager, Kroger Real Estate Jennifer B.

"What unbelievable difference compared to the last few years!!! Three weeks into the ‘season’ we noticed a huge decline in the bird numbers. Four weeks after that the seagulls were almost non-existent. We were never ‘dive-bombed’ this year. We didn’t have one customer that complained to us about the birds. I didn’t hear one complaint from our employees about the droppings in our parking lot. Nor did they have to go home and wash their cars everyday like the last few years. We never thought seagulls could have such an impact on our business. Thank you again for solving this issue for us. Definitely money well spent !! Thank you again !!"

DWF Wholesale Florist Patrick G.

"I want to commend your entire team for the excellent work done on the installation of my new bird deterrent laser. Both Gordon and Carla were responsive and helpful in the installation process. They both are experts in what they do. Also, I must say that despite my initial skepticism about the ability of the laser to keep the geese flocks off my property, it has been 100% effective in keeping the geese away. The day before the installation of the laser, I had 27 geese on my 6-acre property. They were so bold I could not scare them away. The day after we turned on the laser, no geese. And we have not seen a single goose for weeks now. I am now free to enjoy our lake home and property without the mess and nuisance of flocks of migratory waterfowl. Life on the lake is good again. Thanks for your good work and your excellent team of Gordon and Carla. I am happy to provide a reference for potential customers of yours. I am sold on the laser."

"We’ve proudly been using Wild Goose Chase at our airport since 1999! Sue and the team do an outstanding job with wildlife mitigation on our airport that has helped us in more ways than we can count. Innovation is another extremely favorable attribute that WGC has. We were the first Airport in the United States to use canines for geese control and now one of the first handful of airports to use laser technology as well. Very professional and compassionate staff that honestly cares about our clients. Their work, dedication, and passion for their mission is what make them an industry leader, nota follower."

"Wild Goose Chase has been a great success with our geese control. Our garden has grown to a considerable height (with a lot of hand watering) and the geese don’t seem to give it a second look."

President, Kujawa Enterprises Inc. Chris K.

"Migratory Bird Management was hired to assist with the goose population problem. Within a few short weeks, with the aid of the trained dogs and a remote control boat, the technicians were able to reduce the population to only a few mating pairs. Their repeated visits to the site, both day time and evenings eventually caused the geese to become annoyed and leave the site. Their methodology of irritating the birds with light, sound, and the dogs, without physically harming the geese allows for a solution that protects the wildlife, eliminated the nuisance situation in a manner that was acceptable to everyone."
